In March this year, the official website of the National Health Commission successively published projects to improve the diagnosis and treatment capacity of four hospitals, including Qilu Hospital of Shandong University and Tongji Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as well as the preliminary design and the approval of the investment budget. The total budget of the five projects amounted to 1 billion yuan.

The project to improve the ability of diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated diseases is one of the key projects in the National Health Security Project Construction Plan published by the National Development and Reform Commission.

The central government will invest money from the central budget and raise funds from hospitals to solve the major diseases, such as tumors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and respiratory systems, which seriously endanger people's health.

Earlier, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Health Commission jointly issued the Notice on Printing and Issuing the Inventory of Projects to Improve the Diagnosis and Treatment of Difficult diseases, and released the list of 113 provincial-level hospitals. Four months ago, the National Health Commission issued the Notice of the Guidelines for the Construction and Management of Geriatrics (Trial), making it clear that geriatrics should be offered in secondary and above general hospitals with conditions. A general hospital that clearly sets up a geriatrics discipline should acquire the corresponding qualification of diagnosis and treatment subject, and its department name is geriatrics Discipline.

The National Health Commission and other departments jointly issued the Guidelines on Establishing and Improving the Elderly Health Service System, which stated that by 2022, more than 50 percent of secondary and above general hospitals will have geriatrics disciplines.

The official geriatrics department has made clear the auxiliary department and the medical device standard.

A hospital shall have departments related to geriatrics, including intensive care medicine, medical psychology (room), nutrition, anesthesiology, surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology, oncology, Traditional Chinese medicine, rehabilitation (room), pharmacy, laboratory, medical imaging, blood transfusion (room), etc.

Basic equipment: wheelchair, transfer bed (or medical flat car), standing and walking AIDS, sitting scale; Alarm system, oxygen supply device, negative pressure suction device, infusion pump, injection pump, etc.

At the same time, it should have rescue equipment: endotracheal intubation equipment, simple breathing apparatus; Electrocardiographic monitors, cardiac defibrillators, and other equipment corresponding to the diagnosis and treatment of geriatrics.

Hospitals where conditions permit are encouraged to set up auxiliary bath equipment, electric nursing beds, autonomous transport devices, etc.

In addition to the geriatrics department, the state requires hospitals above level ii to establish rehabilitation departments. According to the requirements, there are 5,500 hospitals in China that need to build or improve rehabilitation departments. Based on the average investment of one hospital of one million yuan, the market size of rehabilitation equipment will be expanded by 20 billion yuan.

This will drive the rapid growth of the medical device market, and will also drive a wave of device procurement.

The state has increased investment in promoting hospital reform, promoting hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, and improving the ability to diagnose and treat difficult and complicated diseases
